Kleo Cottages consists of a group of six completely detached two- and three-bedroom country cottage-style spacious villas, all of which have beautiful views across the mountainside and some out to sea. They are set in natural gardens, to the side of a mountain stream, and they share a communal pool hidden in the centre of the gardens. The setting perfectly reflects the relaxed pace of life in the mountains, where your peace is only likely to be disturbed by the ringing bells of a passing goat herd.
The cottages retain a 'village-style' architecture, and blend beautifully with the environment. Each cottage is extremely spacious and comfortable and is set out over two or three storeys, providing the feel of a proper house rather than mere holiday accommodation. A genuine home from home, in fact, lovingly cared for by the charming owners, Müberra and Selahattin Dernek, who live on site. Runing the site is a genuine labour of love for them and nothing is too much trouble.
A traditional, peaceful and scenic mountain region, a short distance from the more cosmopolitan attractions of the coast; Islamlar is made up a scattering of old houses, some a mosque, a cay (tea) garden and a flour mill, where flour is still ground using water power! And that's about it, apart from some restaurants.
The air is noticeably cooler, cleaner and fresher up here than down on the coast... many locals from Kalkan tend to escape to Islamlar in July and August to get some respite from the scorching heat of the summer. Although it's not actually that much cooler in pure temperature terms (maybe three of four degrees cooler) -and you can definitely still catch the sun if you're that way inclined - the lower humidity makes the Islamlar climate feel much more comfortable.
The first thing that really strikes you is the noise. There isn't any!
Well, apart from natural sounds of birds in the trees, the gurgling of mountain streams, and the occasional ringing bell of a passing goat. This place is the epitome of peace and quiet. At night, the absence of street lights and vehicles makes the stars shine so much brighter... you will never see a better view of the Milky Way than from Islamlar.
By day, Islamlar is very green, thanks to the plentiful supply of fresh, pure mountain water, and the village is well known for its trout restaurants. One of the restaurants is "Bodamya Tepe" which is owned by Müberra and Selahattin. Islamlar's restaurants all use natural, chemical-free ingredients and the freshness and flavours are amazing - the food actually tastes as it should taste! Simple and honest fare is on offer up here... but if you want something a little more sophisticated, then of course the restaurants and cafes, bars, shops and beach clubs of Kalkan are only a ten-minute drive away.
The best of both worlds? We think so. And we have some fabulous accommodation for you to stay in, whilst you soak up all that wonderful peace and tranquility.
